Oneofthepack

Slidell, LA USA

            TEAM JO-JO

Big T-Doc (his 23 foot SeaChaser, he Capt for the day) picked up Big Pablo, then pass by and picked up Oneofthepack at 2:45 AM @ Waffle House in Slidell, Oak Harbor.

After my gear was aboard, we headed to Chalmette to pick up Big Glenn B, meet up, loaded up, and we were on our way to BSM for a fun day on the water.

We where early, real early we got to the launch around 4:00 AM, nothing open, hoist does not open till 4:30, and the trailer (store) not until 5:00 AM, so we hung around and waited.

Good thing, cause  we where first in line for bait. Got our 200 live shrimp and a bag of ice, it is still dark, but we head out anyway down the spoil canal at a slow pace.

A flat boat blows by us, daylight cracking so we hooked up and follow the flat boat out, NO PROBLEM.

CONDITIONS:

W.W.N. WIND 10 – 12

3 – 4 WAVES W/WHITE CAPS

Sunny and hot

Tides have no idea, but it was heading towards the rocks, is that falling or coming in?

Water clarity on a scale of 1 – 7 was a 10, beautiful

Water temp 86

TECHNIQUE:

Started out fishing beetles, than over to live bait Carolina rig style. Keep throwing the beetle every now and then.

LURE / BAIT OF THE DAY:

Purple H&H 3” beetle with 1/4oz H&H round white head w/gold hook, it started the day off, and we had 21 in the boat before the live bait kicked in.

Live shrimp took over the action, with an occasional lure putting one in the box

AREAS / SPOTS FISHED:

End of rocks @ Big T-Doc’s secret place he got from Capt Frank Fishing king Moore, NOTHING not even a bite, Called Capt Frank the KING, Frank says I we are her, and nothing where should we go, RIGS in Bay Lwye, like I know where that is.

Capt Frank explain how to get there and what to look for, now for the hard part sell Big T-Doc and crew on the idea to make a major move.

Almost had them convince, but we stopped at another rig, fish hard with live bait and purple beetles, made my last cast and reeling and I was just about to say, “ I cannot believe we have all things right and we cannot get a bite and /or lose a shrimp", WHEN BAM!!!!!!!!!! Nice trout.

Back out I throw, BAM nice trout, than nothing made a move or two, again our last move, couple of cast and BAM it was on, we had 20 or so in the boat with the purple beetle.

Than Big Pablo (expert bait fisherperson) started to do his thing, I could not take it any longer and switch over to bait, before you know we all fishing with live shrimp, and the Silverwonders that have been so elusive over the past 6 weeks was ALL OVER us.

10:40 AM we done and on our way in.

OUR REWARD:

• (101) Silverwonders Nice fat girls
• (1) Flathing
• (1) Sheephead
• (1) Croaker
• (4) Bottoms
• Great food and drink as provided by Big T-don & Carol his better half, thank Big Carol
• Great day on the water with Capt Big T-Doc (I will have to call him from now on) and Team Jo-Jo crew
• Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

SUGGESTIONS:

After Team Jo-Jo fishing with Capt Frank Fishing King Moore for a few years, we have all picked up some great techniques, and information, but the one thing that Big T-Doc managed to lock in on was EARLY, get out their EARLY.

When most fisherperson get to their spot, Capt Frank already has his fish and on his way in, so our suggestion is:

• Early Start
• Limit out
• Early finish
• Be in early to beat the heat

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Capt Big T-Doc, not because he caught the most, but that he gave us a float plan and stuck with it, I was listen to some fisherpersons and guides at the launch to windy to go outside, west wind not good, etc.

But Capt Big T-Doc was on a mission, and his confidence saw us through our trip today, and we stayed true to course and follow his float plan to the “T”.

• Early Start
• Limit out
• Early finish
• Be in early to beat the heat

Big Pablo, need to change his name to fishing machine, and Big Glenn B was sandwich between Big Pablo, and Oneofthepack, hard as he tried, he came in around 5th in a 4 fisherperson race, if only he would have stayed true to the purple beetle!!!!

It was a rough ride back in, but the 23 foot SeaChaser handled the 3 – 4 waves with white caps very well, plus Capt Big T-Doc displayed some excellent seamanship as our boat coxswain .

Oneofthepack is not much for this type trip (outside) I like short vehicle rides, boat rides, and not much effort to catch fish, but when someone (Big T-Doc) puts you on Silverwonders like this.

All I can say is, in my younger days I would be right back out there in the morning and going to work next week would be questionable.

But time has pass, so I will encapsulate this trip in the area of my mind reserved for best fishing trips of my life, and if I had to guest the total number to date would be around 3,276 find memories.

Need to expand my data / memory bank; I still have a 286 mind capacity.

Happy 4th to all you fisherpersons, and the rest of ALL our find people of the USA, hope to see you all out and about, until then:

Good Fishing

Team Jo-Jo & Oneofthepack

P.S.

Thanks again to Capt Big T-Doc for taken me out today, what a trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Team Jo-Jo tried to take pictures but even with (2) cameras ($800.00 worth) it was not to be.

Secret Formula

Algiers, LA USA

We have no pictures of our 4 (four) trout caught yesterday because we gave them to some folks at a camp on Wilkerson canal along with our left over croaker bait.  But I have gotten some request for a picture of the misting system that helps us beat the heat.  It works like a dream while fishing and it doesn't hurt while cleaning the boat either.  Happy 4th.

Capt. Owen Langridge-Big "O"

Venice, LA USA

Happy 4th. All my friends out there think I’m fishing today, but no, I’m celebrating the 4th with my wife, daughter, and grandsons. I decided this year that I would have a normal holiday. I’m bar-b-qing, eating watermelon and drinking (lemon- aid). Just got off the phone with my son in Germany. Monday it’s back to the old grindstone-fishing in Venice. Yes, it’s a tough life, but someone’s got to do it. The reds have been on fire in Venice. They are stacking up along the passes waiting for the Mississippi to fall a few more feet so they can move in. I don’t know how much longer it will last, but I’ve had several trips that we caught over 100 reds. It’s silly. The trout are looking for clean water so that’s what you have to do, find clean water. My best luck has been on live bait under a  Lowcountry Lightning cork. Clean water plus live shrimp, equals trout.
I’ve still got a few open dates in July, so for a fun time in the Delta give me a call at 225-978-1136 or check my web at www.bigocharters.com. Later, Big “O” .

Friday report

 7309

                                                             West wind wins again !

After tearing the trout up yesterday on a scout trip I had all the confidence in the world Ted ,Ryan and Bill would do the same today.
Making our way out in the morning we were met with a stiff west wind and waves on the brink of white caps that had me worried about the area where I found all the big trout the day before.
Once we reached the destination I was real disappointed in the color of the water.
The frontal system that pushed thru the night before with the high winds and rain had pushed plenty of river water in to the area and dirtied things up quite a bit.
I couldn’t even see the troll motor which was real bad compared to the day before.
Still we gave it a shot with only a few that would take the baits and although we got in to cast for cast action it was all catfish and no trout.
Ted managed to find a few hanging around and Bill was steady on the cats with Ryan.
After trying several wells in the area and only about a dozen trout in the box I knew it was going to be one of those days so I told Ted we would make it an expense trip and fish our way back and see if we could find any thing on our way in.
Bill is a wildlife biologist and had not had a chance to go fishing for a while which even had me more disappointed in the conditions.
On our way in we watched several guides fishing under flocks of birds catching dinks so we made one pass and sure enough 10" to 12 ½ “ fish having to measure each one so we bailed on that and tried a couple of other spots before hitting the dock with no luck.

The only highlight of the morning was hand feeding Boudreaux(10' alligator) the trout carcasses and taking a few pictures.
Even Boudreaux had a disappointed look on his face like..where’s the rest of them ?
Hope bill get’s a chance to come back with the guys so I can make it up to him.
I truly enjoyed meeting a guy with such a tremendous amount of knowledge of our echo system and would love to get a chance to discuss it with him some more !
One thing we can’t control is the weather and that’s why we are called guides and not gods!

TILL NEXT TIME TAKE A TRIP AND RIP SOME LIPS!

Wife and I had another memorable fishing trip Friday
with the Bayou Charter gang.
Capt. Shane did his best to put us on the fish and
although it was tough fishing through the
throwbacks it was a blast.
The porpoises put on quite a show herding the trout
around our boat on the edge of Black Bay.

Happy Fourth!

ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA

FISHING REPORTS

RIGOLETS, BILOXI MARSH & BAYOU BIENVENUE AREAS

Clayton Stiffel came in from MS. He wanted to spend a day on the water with son Clayton Jr (CJ) and cousin Tyler both 12 yr old. We fished the Rigolets area with live shrimp to catch 31 Speckled trout, 3 Redfish & 3 Channel Mullet. The boys had a fun day and dad was all smiles.

Jake Mulkey (13) came in from Atlanta area to spend a few nights in the SPOTS & DOTS LAKE HOUSE. His dad Shane and grandfathers Preston & Jim came along for the fun!! I set Jake up with shrimp under a cork and the rest of the crew with Spinners. We fished the shore of Lake Borgne to catch the limit of slot sized REDFISH by 8:30. So we kept fishing and released another 6 limits of REDFISH by 11:00. A GREAT DAY on the water.

Each year I donate several trips to CCA. Rick Olinde was kind enough to purchase a trip. He came in from the Covingtion area with fishing friend Calvin. Capt. Dan jumped onboard to lend a hand. We fished the same area as the day before to catch over 30 Redfish. The guys kept there limit and we released the rest to fight again. Shrimp under a cork and some Spinners did the trick.

William Spindler set up a trip several weeks back. The day before the trip he can't make it, but his fishing buddies still want to go. Herb stepped in the take Williams place along with Milton and Tom. This crew are all local and picked my brain all morning about fishing. We fished the Lake Borgne shoreline with Shrimp under corks to catch our limit of Redfish. We caught a few more on spoons and plastics just for fun. We also had 2 Flounder as a bonus.

I have a few dates open in July. Call to book your ANGLING ADVENTURE 985-781-7811 or 877-4-AAofLA.

On site accommodations sleeps 10 with all the comforts of home.

THE ADVENTURE IS CATCHING---NO-FISH-NO-PAY-GUARANTEE

FRIED FRIDAY!!!

Made a trip with LSU1AGAIN and Bryce to the Rigolets Friday.Met up at Kenneys in Slidell and headed for Fort Pike. Saw a lot more boats launching (5:00am) than I expected , later dawned on me, 4th holiday.Tried some spots in lake borgne from polecat to L&N .Caught a 30" shark and a bunch of throw back specks.Bryce finally started puttin keepers in the box, near as I can recall he was the only person in the boat with keepers the entire day (2:00pm) . I finall got desperate and started keepin 10-11 inch whites , croakers(which Bryce also caught) and a channel mullet(LSU1AGAIN). All fish, keepers and unlimited throwbacks caught on plastics ,to many different ones to try to remember, under a poppin cork tipped with market bait.As the day got hotter, John and I discussed the probality of not fishin anymore till fall(in John's case because of all the 61 year old (WHEN I WAS A KID STORIES) he heard. later talking to my wife, I mentened this and laughing she said, "what you gonna do while I work Sunday?)HUUUUMMMM, maybe I'll go fishin I replied

ended the day with

1 red
4 specks
3 croakeds
8 whites
1 shark(returned to ruin someone elses light tackle)
gafftops and hardheads(didn't keep count).
3 burnt out fishermen

Can't wait for October,(COOL AND KEEPERS)

It is very refreshing to see the positive comments about Breton Sound Marina.  I am a family friend of all of those guys and NEVER get special treatment nor do I expect any.  I can tell you this;  From the most famous fishing guides to the first timers BSM treats everyone like family and shows no favorites.  It has always been first come first serve even to their own family!!! As it sucks when there is no live bait, let's think of how lucky we are to have a marina like the BSM who always has bait when no one else does, and Glenn has been putting me on fish since I was a teenager.  First class service from first class people.  Boogie is probably the best bait man in the state and only when he has temporary mechanical failures does this even come up which doesn't happen very often.  Glenn and his staff run around like crazy to get us out on our way and to the fish on crowded mornings, and there's a reason why they are always crowded.  I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say they are second to none!

GRAND ISLE, LA USA

"FRIDAY"

another productive day for the bigger trout. we went out today for some quality trout and we hit several right in the mouth. we ended the day today with 49 speckled trout. Mr.StPirre had some buddies along Mr.Roddy and Mr.Robert and last but not least "peewee". it was a slow bite today at times but we kept pecking atum til we boated the 49. attached is Kurt with his bigun of the day.

reports iam getting are the trout are biting pretty good on the rocks in front of the state park early in the morning. for some reason the beach bite has slowed down a bit. the oyster reefs in the back of grand isle are produceing numbers in the morning. the reef behind cigars marina has been very hot. they are catching trout in the 14in to 17in range in big numbers. i can see the reef from my house and its constanly full of boats til dark. indepedence island is being hit hard with trout right now. queen bess is getting hammered with trout right now also.

Oneofthepack

Slidell, LA USA

           TEAM JO-JO

Big Joey and Oneofthepack headed on to the south shore this evening, reached the launch at 4:00 pm, and stopped fishing at 6:42 PM.

When we got to the launch they had some fisherpersons that were having trouble getting their rig out, but Team Jo-Jo took charge and all was well.

CONDITIONS:

w.s.w. wind 8 – 10 mph

Sunny & hot

Tide falling slow that fast

Water temp hot

Water clarity on a scale of 1 – 7 was a 6 plus

TECHNIQUE:

Cast & retrieve

LURE OF THE DAY:

Purple 3” H&H beetle with 1/4oz H&H white round head w/gold hook

AREAS / SPOTS FISHED:

Under Twin span, rocks (2) t (1) almost, rocks perfect on a south or west wind, all lee side to fish. Had I not left the trolling motor home it would have been a breeze to run right along the rocks.

OUR REWARD:

• (2) Silverwonders
• (1) Almost redthing (Big Joey lost at boat)
• (4) bites
• (3) rocks
• Got off early from work
• Had a beautiful conditions for fishing
• Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one

SUGGESTIONS:

Met some real nice fisherpersons at:

Patty’s Live Bait 985-649-7205 4619 Pontchartrain Dr.
Had some real nice looking live shrimp, not many, but she assured me that come 4:00 am tomorrow she would have a lot more for all the fisherpersons.
I bought 2 pounds of dead bait, (still in ice chest); they were perfect size for live bait.
They even had live croakers
All you fisherpersons complaining about the size of the live shrimp, might want to give Patty’s Live Bait a try.

Team Jo-Jo making a long haul tomorrow, starts out at 2:00 AM, Big T-Doc (his boat 23 foot SeaChaser) and Big Pablo will pick Oneofthepack up at the Waffle house in Slidell (Oak Harbor) We will then proceed to Chalmette to pick up Big Glenn B. Than off to Hopedale in search of those elusive Silverwonders.

Hope to report we caught a few, but all ready know it will be the best fishing trip of my life.

See you all out and about, until then:

Fishing Magician Charters

Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with Rob, who works for Entergy in New Orleans. He brought his family and friends.

Today, I had Capt. Jason give me a hand. We each had 4 anglers. The guys had to be back at the dock by 10:00. So, the day was short and sweet.

Each boat had a nice mess of speckled trout. And when we got back to the dock, and started cleaning the fish, the guys grabbed a bag of fillets and headed straight to the kitchen at the lodge. They had a nice fresh fish fry.

Capt. Jason and I fished the Bay Eloi area. All fish were caught 2' under a popping cork and Carolina Rig on the bottom using Campo's live shrimp.

If you want to catch some fish and have some fun, Fishing Magician Charters is the one. The hardest thing you will have to do is pick up the phone to give us a call or email. Also, if you have your own boat, come on down and visit the oldest marina in town. Pick up some of Campo's famous live shrimp, you will be glad you did. And, tell the Campo's "Hello". You'll be glad you did.

Friday Hopedale Report: Fished hard today, fought wind an stained water.  Went straight to my favorite rig, we put 4 trout in the boat fast, fishing live shrimp on bottom then it quit. Bounced around to about 5 structures nothing but trash fish.  Headed back inside saw a friend on the way in he said they only had a couple (things weren'tlooking good). Stop under some birds but for some reason this year every flock I've stopped at the fish have been tiny, and once again that was the rule here so we moved on. Next stop was the ole trusty redfish hole, but nobody was home! It was now 9:00 a.m. things weren't looking good.  I had a cousin from Nashville with me and I wanted to put him on some fish. I thought about an old spot around treasure pass, problem was I hadn't fished it in about 3 years, I didn't know what to expect. The spot has a little drop off about 15ft deep.  Well...... we caught the back end of the bite but for the first 15 mins. it was every cast no matter what you threw, caught em on live, dead, and on plastics, even caught 2 on a bare hook! All these specks were solid, the frenzy slowed but we still caught them almost every cast on bottom with live shrimp until we ran out. Final Count: 41-trout. Not a bad way to salvage a windy day!

Secret Formula

Algiers, LA USA

Bari and I made the Myrtle Grove to Elmers Island jump today to celebrate her birthday and ended up with two expensive trout poor boy sandwiches:  70 lbs. of ice, launch, 150 live croakers, 37 gallons in the boat and what ever the truck burned = 4, (four) trout.  The water along Elmers Island was as dirty as I've ever seen it.  The gulf was not at all rough, but the WSW wind has Bayou Lafouche blown smack up against the beach, with the clean water holding 150 yards out.  Went half way to the Fouchon in hopes of finding clean water to the beach, but it was not to be.  East of Camanada the water was great but harly any fish.  Listened to several people on th radio in Barataria and it was the same.  Fishe to Four Bayou, Bay Ronqullie, Cat Bay, and Barataria, man it was tough sledding, and hot as hell even with the mister system.  But some one always posts on the site that "you gotta go to know", and they are correct.  Any way hope everyone has a safe 4th.  ARRIVE ALIVE!!!

I would like to post a special thanks to Captain Peace Marvel for facilitating yet another of my memorable offshore fishing excursions this past Monday and Tuesday. Despite the windy weather that nearly shut us down, Peace was able to change things up and put me on fish both days. Snapper became the name of the game on Monday and Tuna on Tuesday. And both days ended quite successfully.

I would also like to extend a “thank you” to Mike Lane – whom I had the pleasure of meeting and spending a day with – for video-taping and photographing our offshore experience on Tuesday. I can only hope my awkwardness at being taped didn’t ruin Mike’s efforts. Sometimes I get so caught up in the entire offshore experience I forget that these guys are actually working. Thanks again to Captain Peace Marvel, his hard-working mate Brian, and Mike Lane for the wonderful memories. Hope to see you again soon.

MidLife Crisis---MLC Charters

Venice, LA USA

Great day with the ladies today:  Garland and Sharyl.  Couldn't believe these gals got up so early.  We left Cypress Cove Marina just after 5 this morning and went out the east side with live shrimp.  First stop the girls limited on trout.  These were not big trout and I thought many were males but when I cleaned them at least half were females.  Made a very short move and stopped for reds.  On the very first cast Sharyl hooked up on a nice keeper red and it was on!  I was taking reds off so fast I didn't have time for a cup of coffee.  It didn't take long to limit on reds and along the way the girls released 25-30 more.  It was all happening so fast I didn't have time to keep track of them all.  We made another move and pulled up next to some guys, coasted close and set the power pole.  We just wanted to watch while we ate our sandwiches.  We had another great adventure as we pulled the boat up close to an island and waded ashore.  We had my dog, McKinsey along and she had a ball bouncing in the water and running up and down the beach.  We had an "almost moment" when a huge nutrea ducked into some grass just as McKinsey passed by.  Fortunately she didn't get the scent.  She did have a blast rolling in the huge piles of duck-weed that had washed up on the shore.  I've included a picture so you can see how she has grown and how much fun she was having.  I have also posted a picture of Sharyl with her largest red of the day.  Tomorrow I plan to put the girls on some big bull reds.  Jesus is Lord.

NOLA Stick

New Orleans, LA USA

Lafitte Report:  Left out of the Goose Bayou launch at 5 am headed to Manilla again.  Ran across a blue & white bay boat leaving Joe's Landing running with no lights.  It was well before light, and way too much boat traffic in the main canal to do that. Come on guys,  better safe than dead. Anyway, first stop at Manilla, amist the flotilla, the wife and I caught probably 40 or so throw backs, and one 14" trout.  Then an older gentleman in a small white bay boat trolled down the point of the small island we were fishing, anchored within 50 feet of us, and started casting right off my bow.  No reason to crowd anyone, just flat out rude. You want the same spot, leave earlier, and get there first.  Simple idea, right?   Got a call from a friend around the corner at bouy 32 who was a few catching keepers. He asked us to come over and try to put a few in the box. Ran over to his location, and the switch had already turned off.  We pointed both boats south, and headed down to Bassa Bassa. Fished under two sets of birds catching more dinks.  Decided to head back up to a honey hole at Three Bayou Bay.  Trolled the shore line three times, and had three reds turn on the spot remover, but would not inhale.  Called it quits and headed in at 11 am.  Ran across two guys at the launch in a bass boat that limited on reds in Little Lake.  Will be back out on Monday.  Not even going to get caught in the fray this weekend.  Nothing scares me more than a bunch of drunk drivers in 24' bay boats with 300hp motors, that they use three times a year (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day).  You know they're out there, so be safe this weekend.  'Til next time: Tight Lines and Screamin' Drags!  P.S. - I've been posting as "Stick" for years (since Mike Lane lived on T-Parkway), but apparently no one checks previous post before taking over a screen name.  Need some way to register a screen name to post, and we would not have the confusion over who's who.

West Wind, Tough Fishing - made a late afternoon/evening trip out of Delacroix on Thursday.  Fished three spots then changed territory, first at the entrance to Lake Palo from Four Horse Lake, False River as it drops out into Lake Palo, and the cut from Lake Palo as it opens up into Lake Campo.  Hard falling tide. Lots of small trout on live shrimp on the bottom and under a cork.  Threw six in the box about 13 inches.  One nice red on the Campo shore line. Decided to switch areas and headed for Pumpkin Bay on the other side of Terre Boeuf.  As we were headed out into Pumpkin Bay saw birds diving and the rest is history.  On plastic, any color, it was fast as you could go.  Lots of small trout, occasional catfish, some white trout and a fair number of keepers to 16 inches from 7 PM to just before 8 PM when a thunderstorm ran us home.  West wind was about 15-20 knots and made getting outside tough.  Another Boat tried outside around Stone Island, Wreck, etc. and had dirty river water (pushed by the West Wind) all over.  They went back inside and caught trout under the birds like we did.  Another note: after about 10 minutes the birds left us in Pumpkin Bay, but the trout never stopped biting.  You could throw in any direction and almost immediate hits.  Bigger trout were on the bottom and you need a larger jig to get past the small trout - it seemed that any plastic with orange in it worked really well.

GottaFish

Delacroix by way of Kenner, LA USA

Late Delacroix report from Wednesday fishing trip:

Left beautiful downtown Kenner bright and early (4:30 in the AM) to make an attempt to beat this ungodly heat.  Hit the water and found a double edged sword in that the wind was dead flat.  Double edged because the good was we could go outside looking for the monster silver wonders, bad because no wind means more heat!  Got out to black bay and "the captain" decided he wanted to fish at a  rig where he caught fish back in '34.  Of course when we got there we were greeted by four other boats, one of which was exactly where "the captain" wanted to park.  Fished there for a few minutes with no success and then it happened.  Out in the distance was the key, diving birds!  Headed towards them and it was fish-on at once.  Lots of schoolies but enough decent fish to keep our interest for a while.  When the ratio got too low, decided to make the move and went to try our luck at "Stone Island".  Could not even get a bite on the south side of the island so made a move to the north.  I caught a couple of nice fish pretty quickly and we thought we had the ticket, but alas, it was not to be.  Moved around a couple more times and it was the same, a few here and there with a lot of throw backs everywhere we went.  Decided it was getting too hot so we needed a ride to give us some a/c.  Headed to look for some reds for the grill and pulled up to a couple of good looking grassy points.  Sure enough the reds were eager to please.

Final tally for the day:

68 - Silver wonders with all of the spots to go with them.
8 - bruiser reds
5 - good fightin black drum
4 - nasty sheepshead (I call em that so nobody else wants them and I get to keep em)
1 - great day on the water with two good friends

Again, I hope he don't mind but I gotta borrow Oneofthepacks line:  It was the best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

Good fishing all, bring lots of water, get back in before you melt.

Hope to be back at em again on Thursday.

P.S.  I hate having to beg "the captain" for help, but maybe next time I won't have to catch my fish and his too!

Frogman, I was in no way trying to attack BSM. I have been going there for over 20 yrs. I just thought it was funny that 6 people ahead of me in line got live shrimp then when I got to the door, all of a sudden they are out of shrimp. Kinda made me think something "fishy" was going on. As far as BSM, they are a first class operation and Glenn has been more than helpfull to us everytime we go down there. That is why I thought if something was going on behind his back, he should know about it. Mechanical things break and if that is what caused the problem, then I can deal with that. It is just my luck that they ran out of shrimp at the time I was trying to get mine. Next trip will be better I am sure.
Be safe!

JULY 4th TROUT EXPLOSION AT BRETON SOUND

While other people were praying for rain to beat the heat and finding very little in response, Capt Frank Mohre, Captain Jerry Labella and I, along with David (First Mate to Captain Frank) set sail early this morning at Blackie Campo's in search of beating the heat and catching the yellow mouthed beast. Well when we woke this morning we found the winds to our liking so we headed out into Breton Sound and made just two stops and knocked em dead. We did the trout mombo for the next two hours with a nonstop trout bite we limited out in no time. All the fish were in the 1-3 pound range and were caught on Blackie Campo's live river shrimp fishing a carolina rig under a cork. When the cork didn't work we took it off and fished the bottom and found the trout there as well. Thanks to Fishing With The King and Captain Frank for putting us on the fish before the weather got hot. Everyone had a great time and we can't wait to go back again. Why waist time, FISH WITH THE KING (Capt. Frank Mohre) you won't be disappointed. I never have been in fifteen years! Until next time AAAIIIYYYEEEEE!

In response to Bryan

Bryan & Stick,
I was at BSM this morning also and paid for launch and got 75 live shrimp just before 5:30.
I know it has to be disappointing to have something like that happen to you when you are trying to get out on a fishing trip you've been looking forward to.
But believe me, I really don't think it was intentional.
Things start happening fast for them at the marina as soon as they get there, and apparenty there was a communication breakdown, causing problems for a couple of people (unfortunately you were one of them). I would bet that as soon as it was known that there was no more shrimp, they quit selling them.
We left the dock just before 5:30 and Glen WAS there and leaving to go fishing on his day off.
All business owners are aware of "Murphys Law" and unfortunately Murphy paid BSM a visit this morning.
I've been fishing out of BSM for a number of years now, and I really think that this was just one of those times when poor communications caused some problems before it got corrected. Eveyone there is always as helpful as they can be in the chaos of the rush to take care of everyone as quick as they can.
Oh, by the way, we left with 75 shrimp, came back with 75 specks, & 15 white trout and probably used only 5 of our 75 shrimp, all fish caught on plastic.
Bagged & froze the unused shrimp for future trips.
Hope this helps you be a little more understanding.

Lafitte Report

Another hot one again today and the fish did not seem to mind it at all.

We had 3 boats out today with Capt.Mike H. taking the Roy Koch crew out. They started off fishing trout just off the channel at Redfish Bay.They found some good trout working under the birds and stayed with them until it was over.Next for them was redfish. They made the run back to Little Lake and found some schools working the shell banks. They put 13 keepers in the box and called it a day with 84 trout and 13 reds.Capt.Mikey had the Johnson Party. They fished trout only and had a good day also. They headed in early with 108 on ice.Capt.Mike J. fished with the Juneu crew after getting a 4am call from Capt.James as he was not feeling to well(Thanks for bailing me out today and tomorrow Old Mike). They ran to Little Lake and fished the shell banks pounding the schooling reds. They put their 25 redfish limit on ice and called it an early day.

All trout came on H&H glow beetles fished 2ft. under a cork. The reds ate up H&H spinnerbaits.

Now for du458 the exact locations where the fish came from today was: Trout, look at your map and find Redfish Bay just off of Hackberry Bay.Fish the oyster poles with the red flags on them.Reds came from Little Lake on the shell banks near the Y.The gps numbers are 29 31.08, 90 08.92.Can't be more specific than that. Now since you have only 1 post ever on rodnreel, if you catch a few fish then you can share your trip info with everyone on the site like the rest of us.

WOW, "Take the money and run"! I'm sure that is not what BSM did. I'm sure you received a full refund on your bait. I understand that some of you out there think that the bait is grown in the tanks, but that is not actually how it works. Boogie has been going out at night to make sure customers have their bait for their fishing trips. It just so happen that a part of his boat broke. Things happen sometimes and we can change it. I'm willing to bet that 99% of the time you are treated with respect and given the bait you ask and pay for. As far as Charter captains getting some kind of special treatment, you couldn't be more wrong. Get there early, and then you can get your bait. Boogie boat is now fixed. BSM now has 6 bait tanks full for tomorrow.

HOPEDALE/BRETON SOUND REPORT....

I had the pleasure to fish with Dereck Kennedy from the Monroe area. He brought along his son Cattar and Cattar's pal, Jake. They tried to squeeze in a trip before Jake's baseball shedule got too hectic. Derek was going a lot out of the West side of the state taking charters out of Calcesieu, but this time they decided to come down and give Hopedale a try.

We headed over toward the channel and stopped on a structure and it was FISH ON! From the first cast to the last it was non stop action as fast as you can get it with some nice fish. It was Jake's first time ever fishing like this and he caught on quicker than I imagined. I needed some fish for the house so I told them to catch me a few and before long the guys had 90 in the box and it was only 8am.

I brought them to look for a few reds. We were able to look at the fish but couldn't convince them to take any baits. They did all get a turn with a red and wound up with 4 reds, 3 drum, and a nice flounder to add in the igloo. We fished til 9:30 and as the heater came on in full force we headed back in for some shade!

It was another great trip with some great people and good fun! All fish were caught on live "Boogie Shrimp" under corks.

HOPEDALE/BRETON SOUND REPORT....

Had the pleasure of fishing with Joe Mier and his group of guys last week. We fished around Eloi and worked out to the Sound. It started out a little rough early but laid down a good bit.

By the time that happened and we found the clean water around 5 wells we started having bait issues. The guys were catching a some fish the bite was just slow and steady. Before long all of our bait died.

Thank God Rory was on the same rig as me and was about done. He was kind enough to spare me his leftover shrimp and it was enough to salvage the day. THANKS RORY!

The crew still wound up with a nice box of 48 speckled trout and a few redfish to boot. All fish were caught on Live and Dead "Boogie" Shrimp both under corks and carolina rigged.

Fishing has been incredible and Hopedale is about as HOT as it gets! It is just going to get better and better as the river drops, which means BIG TROUT in the Sound are gonna crank back up!

So if you are ready to get out and get in on some AWESOME summertime action before it's all over then call soon as you can and get your date locked down on the books. Call direct 504-259-5304 or check us out on the web @ www.OughtToBeFishing.com.

Let me rephrase myself, I did get my shrimp around 5:30(which for me was late). We left the dock at 6.

I did just talk to Glen and he said they did run out of shrimp because boogie's winch broke last night. Both you and Bryan must have caught it at a point in time before Kathy inside at the register knew.

Give a little more credit and not talk it down so much over what was probably one occurrence. BSM has a great reputation for the simple reasons of why you were there yourself this morning.

Fishing Magician Charters

Today we had 4 boats out. I had my two sons, Captains Jason and Jeremy, and my brother Capt. Lester helped me out with the charters.

We had the pleasure of fishing with Jeff Reid and his friends. We all fished in the Breton Sound area. Everyone caught a nice box of speckled trout, some reds and a couple of flounders. All fish were caught on Campo's live shrimp and croakers, fishing 2' under a popping cork and Carolina rig on the bottom. Guys there are lots of fish in the Sound to be caught. But, it is very hot, so make sure you bring: a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a lot of liquids to drink.

Capt. Jason was able to take some pictures of his customer's catch and my boat's catch. The other boats were finished cleaning their fish before we arrived back to the dock. So, check out the pictures of our fish with no ice.

If you want to catch some fish and have some fun, Fishing Magician Charters is the one. The hardest thing you will have to do is pick up the phone to give us a call or email us.

Stick!
I was also there at 6:00 AM and I was told they did not have live shrimp. I paid for my launch and my 100 shrimp and after we launched our boat and pulled over by the bait shed, I was told they had no shrimp so it had nothing to do about about getting there early. I have my credit card receipt with the time printed on it and it was at 6:05 AM. Glenn was nowhere to be seen at 6:05 AM or at 10:30 AM when we returned or believe me, I would have told him what was going on. It was almost like, let them pay for everything then after they launch we will break the news to them. If the lady in the trailer had told us they did not have shrimp, I would never have launched the boat there in the first place. I am not saying the guides get any special treatment and if you do, more power to you. I am sure you give them alot more business than I do. All I am saying is that they should not collect money for the launch and for live shrimp and then after your boat is in the water and you go over by the bait shed, tell you they are out of live shrimp. That is not good for business.

Capt. Kerry Audibert-Ought To Be Fishing Charters

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA United States

In response to Stick

FYI "Stick" There were no guides out of the Breton Sound Marina today, except for me. I only had a two person charter and bought 100 shrimp. My clients were late and we left at 6am. People were still getting shrimp both before and after I got mine.

If you think us "guides" get special service.....buddy you are wrong! We have to wait in line like everyone else. We do make it a point to be first in line....so maybe you should try to get there a little earlier.

And PS Glen was back and forth throughout the day. It was his day off but he was out fishing and did come back. He got back shortly after me around 8:30am. You would have seen him if you would have been there early.
